Roof Coating vs. Nano Rejuvenation
If you’re researching a “roof coating” for your shingle roof, read this first. On asphalt shingles, where the protection lives — on top of the roof or inside it — changes everything about how long it lasts.
Get an Honest RecommendationOn Top vs. Inside the Shingle
Surface Roof Coating
- Sits on top of the shingle as a film
- Built for flat/commercial roofs, not shingles
- Depends on surface adhesion — can peel
- Can trap moisture against the mat
- Often changes the roof’s appearance
- Typically fades in 2–3 years
GoNano™ Nano-Rejuvenation
- Penetrates and bonds with the asphalt
- Engineered specifically for asphalt shingles
- Becomes part of the shingle — nothing to peel
- 100% breathable — won’t trap moisture
- Invisible — no change to appearance
- Written warranty up to 15 years

Why It Matters for a Texas Roof
The whole reason to treat a roof is to add years of real, warrantied life. A coating that washes off a shingle roof in a couple of seasons doesn’t do that — and worse, a non-breathable film can hold moisture against the mat and speed up the very decay you were trying to stop.
That’s why we use a penetrating nano-treatment instead of a coating. Learn more about roof rejuvenation and roof restoration, or see the full category comparison.
Coating vs. Rejuvenation Questions
Does roof coating work on asphalt shingles?
Most roof coatings are designed for flat commercial roofs (metal, TPO, modified bitumen), not residential asphalt shingles. On shingles, a surface coating sits on top, can trap moisture, may change appearance, and typically breaks down in 2–3 years. A penetrating nano-rejuvenation is a better fit for shingle roofs because it works inside the shingle.
Is GoNano a roof coating?
No. A coating is a film applied on top of the roof. GoNano’s nano-particles (about 40–60 nanometers) penetrate the shingle and chemically bond with the asphalt itself, so the protection becomes part of the roof rather than a layer that can peel, wash away, or trap moisture.
Which lasts longer — coating or rejuvenation?
Surface coatings on shingles generally fade in 2–3 years. GoNano rejuvenation carries a written 10-year (Revive™) or 15-year (Fortify™) warranty because it integrates with the shingle instead of sitting on it.
Can a coating trap moisture and cause damage?
It can. A non-breathable film over shingles can hold moisture against the mat and accelerate deterioration. GoNano is 100% breathable — it repels liquid water while still letting the roof release vapor.
Is roof rejuvenation more expensive than coating?
They’re in a similar ballpark and both are far cheaper than replacement — but rejuvenation lasts far longer on shingles and is backed by a written warranty, so the cost per protected year is much lower.
How do I know which my roof needs?
A drone assessment settles it. We fly the roof, score its condition, and give you an honest recommendation — including whether any treatment makes sense at all, or whether repair or replacement is the smarter call.
Not Sure Which Your Roof Needs?
A drone assessment gives you an honest answer — treat, repair, or replace.
- Drone roof assessment — engineering-grade condition report
- Honest answer — protect, repair, or replace; the data decides
- Written warranty — 5, 10, or 15 years depending on your roof
