Old roofs fail from the inside out
The industry has had three ways to deal with an aging asphalt roof — and each misses the real problem:
- Full replacement — effective, but costly and environmentally wasteful.
- Film-forming coatings — sit on the surface; can raise durability, adhesion, vapor-permeability, and fire-classification concerns.
- Bio-oil (soy) rejuvenators — penetrate shallowly and don’t last.
None of them fix the molecular-level degradation inside the asphalt binder — the oxidation and stiffening that actually govern how a shingle fails.
A materials-science approach

The projected 10–15 year service-life extension is a mechanistic estimate — informed by peer-reviewed asphalt-aging literature and 2–3 years of field monitoring so far — not a guaranteed lifespan. Long-term, multi-climate validation is ongoing, with peer-reviewed publication planned for 2028–2031.
